Day 17: Eternal Life Through Knowing God — John 17:3

Reflection: John 17 records what is often called the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus. In this chapter, Jesus prays for His disciples and for all who will believe in Him. At the center of this prayer is a profound definition of eternal life: “That they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” Eternal life is not merely endless existence; it is a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. This aligns perfectly with the purpose of John’s Gospel. Belief in Jesus as the Messiah and Son of God leads to a personal knowledge of God. Jesus prays that His followers will be united, reflecting the unity between the Father and the Son. This unity becomes a powerful testimony to the world. He also prays for their protection and sanctification. Believers are set apart by the truth of God’s word and sent into the world to continue Christ’s mission. This chapter reveals the heart of Jesus as He intercedes for His people. The Son of God is not distant; He actively desires that believers experience the fullness of life in relationship with God. Prayer: Father, thank You for the gift of eternal life through knowing You and Your Son. Help me grow deeper in this relationship each day. Action Point: Spend time today in worship, focusing on knowing God personally.
